Capital Brass Dixieland Brass ensemble was absolutely terrific on a Canadian Brass chart - played their bells off, including a picc that's awfully difficult to play in tune and blend on, done masterfully. Every foot in the room was tapping on remote control.

Your Band won the Trophy for BEST BAND. Everyone I talked to really liked your Band. If I can get your address, I will send you your Trophy unless someone is down in the Kingston area I would meet with them. Thanks again and hope to have both bands next year.

The program started at about 2:14pm with Capital Brass taking center stage. These Pro’s put on one heck of a show and had the crowd dancing in their seats. You could see that the audience liked the music as they recognized the songs and liked what they heard. They gave CB a standing ovation, in appreciation, for their performance. Great job guys and thanks for coming in all the way from Albany.

The Capital Brass will be performing. They are a group of professional brass players from the Albany, NY area, most of whom have Drum Corps resumes - Interstatesmen, Speigelaires, Avant Guard, etc. They play every year at the drum corps show in Glens Falls, NY and at the Saratoga Race track each season. They also compete in the mini-corps, and individual competitions at the DCA championships.
We’ve heard them play many times, and these guys can really rip it up!

While on vacation at Lake George this summer, former Pittsfield Cavaliers snare drummer, Dave Fields, saw Capital Brass perform and was very impressed, not only with the quality of their playing but also with the complexities of their charts. Dave is still a professional musician, so his positive comments mean more than most.

We are honored that the Capital Brass has agreed to perform at the Pittsfield Drum Corps reunion. You don’t want to miss them.

His own returning favorites include the Capital Brass, a division of a drum and bugle corps from Albany - "I was blasted away", Mr. Perry reports, by their first appearance at the Lake George Festival last year.

.a bevy of I&E talent led up to the competition performances of two MCA Mini-Corps, the Golden Eagles and Capital Brass ... two different styles ... tons of talent ... and a prelude to what should be a wonderful mini-corps season ... GE's Spanish offerings were ... well ... packed with GE! ... BHOFer Frank Ponzo and his entire cast were at the top of their game ... CB's four-part show offering was highlighted by their stirring rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody ...

... the Capital Brass's brass ensemble then presented Cartoon Capers - Episode 2, which transformed the entire crowd into their adolescent years of watching Looney Tunes on a Saturday morning ...

... the Capital Brass mixed ensemble offered up their 2009 fun-filled version of Cartoon Symphony to the delight of everyone ... Capital Brass has appeared at every BHOF I&E show to date and their enthusiasm and talent have never ceased to amaze me ...

On behalf of the veterans and staff here at the Stratton VA Medical Center, it is my pleasure to thank you for your recent musical performance here. The music was absolutely beautiful and our residents truly appreciated you taking the time out  of your busy schedules and coming in to play for them.

It's heartwarming to see such a caring spirit towards our nation's veterans during the holiday season. Thank you again for your generosity and coming in on such a treacherous weather day and sharing the gift of music with our nation's heroes. It was truly our pleasure to have you here and we look forward to your next performance.

Capital Brass: I have seen this group many times before. Some one on an earlier thread said this might have been their best performance, I agree. The cartoon melodies they put out had the crowd cheering throughout their show. Their trap player gave great support. There were a variety of soloist. I was wondering if the two sop soloist were playing trumpets that were older than I was. Great job as the host and great performance.

Just got home ... it truly was a historic night in drum corps ... a "first ever" ... from the opening fanfare by the Defenders to the closing strands of the I-men, each moment of each performance was magical ... the talent level for each group was extremely high ... and the venue was a perfect setting for the "mini" sized corps ... it was an honor to be able to MC the hallmark event ... thanks for inviting me ... the I-men reunion was icing on the cake ...  the after party was pure drum corps heaven ... so many conversations ... so many nostalgic stories ... so many kind words on my MC duties ... and ... even with all the scheduling challenges, the I&E show still proved that people like to show their wares ... my hope is that the continued combination of I&E and Mini Corps shows will continue to thrive with the spring shows being planned ... players are so supportive seeing their peers is action ...

My summary of the the entire day/evening/after evening? ... simply wonderful

Seriously, this as you know was my first experience with both I&E and Mini Corps since my first exposure to Drum Corps back in 1964. Also as you know, I was hesitant to attend this event at all. BUT, I have to admit that I and my wife were certainly glad that I had made the decision to make it because... I was personally BLOWN AWAY by what I discovered. Yes, I said blown away by what I discovered because I had never believed that I&E or Mini Corps could ever reach the level of enjoyment one could get out of traditional drum corps competition!

Boy, WAS I WRONG and I believe that I'll never think of drum corps the same way I have over the past 44 years. I've seen a number of indoor competitions several years years ago and felt the full enjoyment could never be achieved because there was just too much brass and percussion for the amount of indoor space used. Not only was the balance between sound and space last night great in my opinion, but you could also better hear and appreciate just how talented the performers themselves really are. It may have been better in other venues, but I was just simply wowed by what I heard. And for the corps themselves, If I were to have judged them last night, there would have been a seven way tie! But then again that's why I'm not a judge and talented knowledgeable people like Donny Allen are!

One thing that I do have to admit though is that I was biased in my favorite corps last night. Capital Brass simply left me flabbergasted and emotionally effected because I never expected to hear something so professional and enjoyable this quickly and my kudos to you (Tom) and your musicians for making it happen... especially in an area that's tough for any drum corps developments. If I didn't know you or of Capital Brass and was told that the sound track was to be used in an animated major motion picture, I would have believed it without hesitation. I thought it was just that good and had similar thoughts during the performance last night!

Before I close I wouldn't want to pass the opportunity to also say something about your son Paul. I never would have believed what I heard coming out of his instruments and I place the musicianship right up there with the kind of musicianship I've heard coming out of Blast!

This was the first "mini corps" show that I have attended. I was very impressed with your group and all the rest of the corps/individuals......Some time back (Al Richards) told me that "mini-corps" and the like were the wave of the future. And now I believe him.

Thanks for a great evening and I hope you will be able to continue having this type of show in the Capitol Dist. I wish you and you corps the very best.

First of all I want to thank you for exposing me to a great new venue of drum corps, the MCA.  The corps were great!   What you did for the Interstatesmen family was the kindest gesture that I have ever seen.  It gave some of us the opportunity to play again, something that one would have never dreamed could happen again.  And it brought out emotions and memories that had been stored away in the back corners of members minds for years.  People greeted each other for the first time in years and hearing "Softly " and "Who's Sorry Now?" triggered so many "remember when" conversations. And the arrangements were very well done.  I really hope the Championship was a success for you and your organization. This was the first time that many had ever witnessed this kind of event, and I'm sure the word will spread.

Secondly, I want to tell you that Capital Brass literally blew me away.  I did not really know what to expect and was totally taken by surprise with the fantastic performance of your unit.  Please let them know how much their effort was appreciated.

..., your Capital Brass' performance consisted of very difficult material, played extremely well, exposing all the voices. These voices drew many ohs and ahs.  The material was extremely exposed compared to the others I witnessed and the articulations, rhythms, intonation, techniques used, style variations, as well as the colors and difficulty of the brass charts were on a higher level than most others.   In my mind, I had predicted that you guys would have won the show based on what I had heard.

Thanks again for a great evening, for taking a big chance on hosting the Championships in Albany, and for honoring the Interstatesmen.  You, your corps, and your staff are to be congratulated on this wonderful production.

What did you miss ............................................ Well

A Luncheon with Old Friends

An Excellent Soloists Contest for several Very Talented Individuals and Ensemble Groups

A Contest between 8 Groups called Mini Corps' who lit up the stage with All of the Virtuosity found in any First Class Musical Venue. The Repertoires varied from group to group as the night unfolded. "The Fourth Movement from Divengents" to "Malaga", "El Gato Triste" to "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Oye Como Va" to "Happy Trails are Here Again,"and believe it or not Cartoon Music, all performed with creative arrangements at a very high level of musicality. I can see this activity as being a very big part of the future.

50 Years Ago a Group was formed by the merger of two other groups. The Berkshire Marauders and The Empire State Grenadiers. The New Group was called The Interstatesmen.

The Interstatesmen were not only honored for their 50th Anniversary but a group that was made up of some of the actual members of this fine group performed two of their most memorable tunes. They say the best tune of the night is the one that the crowd leaves humming. I found myself humming "Who's Sorry Now".

Capital Brass used a jazz musical book and tossed out red foam balls to the crowd at the end of their opening  number. Hunting Wabbits was a tribute to cartoon music, nicely done and only lacked Elmer Fudd to complete this selection. The driving dance number Hey, Pachuco showcased seven talented sopranos across the stage to close out a strong showing.

Last night, "THE SELDEN CADETS ALUMNI MINI CORPS" had the honor of performing and competing in the NORTH AMERICAN BUGLER'S HALL OF FAME SHOW in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

With performances by some of the all time greats of drum corps, "SELDEN" took second place in the "mini corps" caption of the show that was won by "CAPITAL BRASS MINI CORPS" who gave a terrific performance...a tip of the "shako" to the guys in "CAPITAL BRASS".

....displaying exceptional talent with their brass ensemble ... their ensemble appeared THREE times! ... and what they presented definitely whetted everyone's appetite for future shows they'll be appearing at....

Capital Brass definitely showed the crowd what quality, versatility and GE is all about ... I was VERY impressed with your THREE performances (all different)...

Sky's Alumni and the BHOF partnered in this venture and you guys made it a success ... building this new wave I&E circuit is a challenging task but, having groups like yours in the fold can only mean success for upcoming shows in Bayonne and Bridgeport.

All the best

Appearing third was Capital Brass! from Albany, NY, delivering what was arguably its strongest performance to date. This corps features a big band motif, which is clearly a crowd pleaser. We overheard several folks commenting on how much more polished the corps was since its showing in Bridgeport last month. Keep up the great work.
